Corpus Christi Processions

Every year I look forward to the feast of Corpus Christi and it’s associated Eucharistic processions. I wasn’t able to attend the procession at our parish this year but I did find some spectacular images from a procession in Valencia in a previous year. Unfortunately, I only found the pictures on Facebook and I can’t find the original source but here they are.

I know St. John of the Cross would tell me to remain detached from ceremonies and focus on Him who they are intended to honor. I will have to try harder to do that but the beauty in these pictures tugs at my heart. Perhaps it has something to do with living in America where we are starved for any public recognition of our Lord.

These pictures also reminded me of one of my favorite videos of historical Corpus Christi processions. This one is from 1941 has has a little more reverence and a little less spectacle..
